HIKE DURATION: 2 hours

HIKE DISTANCE:  3 miles approx (round-trip)

MEETUP LOCATION:
Circle K
12604 Beverly Blvd.
Whittier, CA 90601

PARKING NOTE: Recent municipal code changes in residential parking areas will have us park at a distance. Expect a good lengthy walk to the trail head.

TRAIL WALK-THRU:  We will start off on a flat Turnbull Canyon Trail for the first 1/2 mile. And then, we’ll start to go up plenty of uphill at a gradual incline (it’s a workout) that curve around the hills along the Sumac Trail. Once we plateau, we’ll briefly touch the Rose Hills Fire Road #1 trail and go up a more rigorous trail to get us on the last stretch to the end. Our goal is to reach the area near the water tower at the top! You can’t touch the water tower given there is security now protecting it, however, there is a magnificent view of the surrounding area, almost 360 degree view.  We then will go down the same trail which leads us out the rest of the way back to the flat trail which brought us in.

(EXTENDED VERSION: This version will cover more area to go to the other water tower in the area.)

REQUIRED: WATER, at least 1 liter of water (about two to three 20oz water bottles). Comfortable walking/crosstraining/hiking shoes. A hat.

RECOMMENDED:  Small snack. Hiking pole. Sun Screen. Pack light and wear light colors. Long pants (windbreakers or light gym pants)

DOG FRIENDLY?: Yes, but dogs must be on a leash. Dogs should be friendly with other dogs/hikers. You will be required to pick up after your pet.

NOTE:  This hike has a nice work out just before we reach the water tower, you will sweat.  This is not a shaded hike, it’s sunshine happy. However, the view from the top will be worth the hike.

MY FRIEND SAID I CAN DO THIS HIKE, I SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO IT, RIGHT?
We take your safety quite seriously, and would not like for you to attend a hike you’re not ready for.  You know your body and hiking experience better than your friends. Whether you are a first-timer or an experienced hiker, please read our hike details page as the hike may not suite your experience level. We have a better experience if every hike has hikers of the intended level.
