PARKING: Yes, there is free parking at the small trail head parking lot, but it only has a few spots so you can also park outside along in neighborhood and or school parking lot across the street since the school will be closed for holiday/weekend.

HIKE WALKTHROUGH: This is a well maintained, and moderately traffic trail with beautiful views, and good feeling of being away from the city once you start trekking! You hear the sounds of nature all around with the birds chirping, the occasional jack rabbit bunny running through the bushes, wild flowers, berrie trees and cool looking insects and your typical lizards.

We will be starting from the Ahwingna Trail which starts off east to west relatively level then proceeds into a challenging 1 mile in and has abdundance of well maintained vegatation along the way. The first mile in gives you an elevation gain of 660ft that is the steepest climb of the hike with a few switchbacks and rolling hills that offers amazing views overlooking the expansive San Gabriel Valley.  We will loop around onto the Skyline trail trekking up for a short period to electrical towers where we will be taking a break here and enjoying the 360 views and then connect here onto the Coyote Trail which is a single track trail back to where we started. The Coyote trail has plenty of shade compared to Ahwingna trail that is not and has few shaded areas during the switch backs in the beginning. Overall, the views are stunning and won’t disappoint.

Please note: mountain bikers & horses also share this trail so be cautious at all times.

MY FRIEND SAID I CAN DO THIS HIKE, I SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO IT, RIGHT?
We take your safety quite seriously, and would not like for you to attend a hike you’re not ready for.  You know your body and hiking experience better than your friends. Whether you are a first-timer or an experienced hiker, please read our hike details page as the hike may not suit your experience level. We have a better experience if every hike has hikers of the intended level.
