TRAIL NAME: Escondido Canyon Falls (Extended)

HIKE LENGTH: 4.2 Miles (Roundtrip) + .8 miles for full trip up to upper waterfalls (oneway)

HIKE DURATION:  3 hrs (approx.)

We’ll be driving to the trail head from the meeting point as a group.

PARKING FEE: None (at meeting point and at trail head)

ELEVATION GAIN: 250 ft.

HIKE WALKTHROUGH:  “The hike starts out on the pavement along Winding Way. After about a mile, an obvious trail takes you down into the lovely Escondido Canyon, criss-crossing creek 4 or 5 times. As you approach the base of the lower falls, you can see the water dropping over the lip of the 150 ft upper falls in the distance. The lower falls are about 50 foot high and trickle over a moss covered wall into a lovely shallow pool. This is the turn around point for those not comfortable with a bit of rock scrambling.” – www.localhikes.com

SUMMER NOTE: During dry seasons the water may be dry or at a trickle (not as pictured above).

EXTENDED VERSION: From the Lower Falls, we will be uphill climbing requiring you to use your hands and going up up a steep hill using a rope, climbing on a rocky are along with some boulder climbing.

WATER REQUIRED. WATER CHECK WILL BE PERFORMED. If you do not take enough water or are not appropriately equipped for this hike, you will be turned away from doing this hike with us even if you show up. Please note, that we have expectations for Level 6 evening hikers. Read all the details.

REQUIREMENTS: WATER (at least 2 liters). Comfortable hiking/sports shoes with good grip. Hat. Sunscreen.

RECOMMENDED: A good sized snack (trail mix, nuts, granola bars, etc.) Wear sunscreen, comfortable shoes and keep from wearing jeans.

DOG FRIENDLY:  No. No dogs for this specific visit with the group.
